MARIKA 'MIXI' MALLIARIS

MARIKA 'MIXI' MALLIARIS

5FM Music Compiler/Freelance Radio Presenter

Marika Malliaris (affectionately known as Mixi) is the Music Compiler of 5FM, national radio station within the SABC, where she pays specific attention to increasing communication with stakeholders and artists, thinning the gap between the two and educating people about the procedures behind submitting music to radio. Having started at her local community radio station (MFM 92.6) in Stellenbosch at age 16, Mixi quickly grasped the essence of radio and its power as a broadcast medium. Mixi's radio experience spans 15 years, starting as an on-air presenter and learning all aspects of radio during high school and varsity. After six years of working as a volunteer at MFM, Mixi landed the drive show and was being booked for gigs all over the city as a young female DJ.

Mixi was eventually approached by 5FM to take up three shows with them nationally, which she accepted and moved to Johannesburg. Two years later Mixi was appointed Music Compiler of 5FM. Her digital music strategy has since been implemented, increasing 5FM's discoverability of music content online and truly championing 5FM as a South African music station, with integrated on-air and online components.
