FRED JACOBS

Founder, Jacobs Media

Fred Jacobs founded Jacobs Media in 1983. The company consults the leading broadcasting companies in America, including CBS, Entercom, Greater Media, Cox, Journal and Citadel. The company also conducts research for commercial and public radio stations and groups, as well as for companies like Arbitron. It also advises companies on their digital strategies and develops iPhone applications for radio, Internet streaming stations, and media personalities.

"Goin' Mobile" is an innovative ethnographic study of users of smartphones and how these devices are rapidly changing their day-to-day lives. Consisting of 18 day-long interviews among 18-49 smartphone owners in four diverse U.S. metros, the activities of these respondents using their mobile phones in situations (workplaces, homes, bars and in vehicles) were recorded on video. The study was sponsored by Arbitron and was a keynote SuperSession at the NAB/RAB Radio Show in September 2010. It contains no charts, graphs or numbers; instead, it is a revealing look at the habits, passions, actions and reactions of smartphone owners in this incredibly fluid and exciting space. At the Worldwide Radio Summit, attendees will see parts of the original presentation, as well as segments that have been put together exclusively for this conference.
